Despite intending to bring his in-ring days to a halt earlier this year, recent times have seen MVP become a regular competitor on Raw each and every week.

After initially being eyed to become a backstage producer for WWE, MVP is these days on TV in both a managerial and a wrestling capacity – and now comes word that he’s in talks to sign a new, extended WWE contract.

Speaking to the Gorilla Position podcast (as reported by POST Wrestling), the ‘current’ United States Champion explained, “I was working as a producer and then I was asked to do an on-screen VIP Lounge, and then I was asked to do a short match and another on-screen segment and another and another and another. Before I knew it, my responsibilities as a producer became less and less as I was asked to do more and more as talent, and now I can say that the WWE and myself are in negotiations for a long-term deal.”

As the interview went on, MVP went on to discuss how he seems himself moving into a “Heyman-esque role” as he gets older – although he did reiterate how he feels that he’s got another two or three years of in-ring action in him.

At present, Montel Vontavious Porter finds himself heading up the burgeoning group known as The Hurt Business. With Bobby Lashley and now Shelton Benjamin alongside him, many fans are speculating who else may end up joining this stable over the next few weeks and months.

Once Apollo Crews is back in action, it’s expected that MVP will be involved a US Champion vs. US Champion situation with the man he claimed to have defeated at Extreme Rules this past Sunday.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
