New Details On AEW's UK Expansion
News on potential United Kingdom shows and the ITV deal.
All Elite Wrestling's United Kindom expansion plans are alive and all.
Today's Full Gear media call saw Stephanie Chase ask Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes if the company had spoken to its British television network, ITV, about expanding the promotion's presence in Britain, citing Dynamite's strong viewing figures.
Rhodes answered that he hopes AEW's success will beget further success. He confirmed that talks with ITV have taken place, though he was unable to offer further details.
On the prospect of a potential AEW live event in the United Kingdom, Cody gave a more concrete answer, saying there will "absolutely" be at least one show in the country once the world starts opening back up. Rhodes added that a wrestler isn't a wrestler until they've competed in front of a British crowd, saying "there's nothing like it, they go a different way."
AEW had originally intended to hold July's Fyter Fest shows in the UK, hosting it as a special pay-per-view from London's Wembley Arena. The onset of the global health crisis in March made this impossible. Rhodes' words make it clear that the promotion will revisit this whenever it is able to.
