If you've gotten into New Japan in the last few years, you likely know Toru Yano as sort of New Japan's answer to Santino Marella. He's a comic foil who has a silly moveset and is more focused on shilling his merch than putting on good matches.

Of course, this is just the newer version of Yano. Before his wrasslin' career, Yano was an accomplished amateur wrestler at university, where he won several awards. Joining New Japan, he was a dastardly heel competitor who was one of the original members of Great Bash Heel before being the first man to turn his back on the group and join Nakamura. It wasn't too long ago that he was portrayed as nearly the equal of guys like Nakamura and Tanahashi.

But as time went on and his body took more damage, Yano acquiesced his spot and embraced the role of midcard comedy character. Fittingly, as CHAOS has evolved from the menacing strong style revival group into a heroic babyface ensemble, Yano's cheating ways have changed tonally from heelish to endearing.

Put simply: Yano's evolution mirrors the evolution of CHAOS, while at the same time, as an OG, he carries on the original group's legacy.
