NJPW G1 Climax 30: Every Participant's Chance Of Winning Ranked From Worst To Best
19. Jeff Cobb
Returning to the G1 for the second time after his slightly disappointing tenure in last year's tournament, the talented heavyweight should hopefully deliver across the tournament this year in rematches with Tomohiro Ishii and Shingo Takagi, as well as brand new opponents that he'll get to show his strength towards.
Unfortunately for Jeff, he's got little chance of pulling off an upset victory, he's not been in Japan for months due to the pandemic and doesn't have a particularly lengthy history with the promotion that would get fans behind him completely. He’s definitely impressed with NJPW fans but some more time in the promotion to elevate him further is needed.
The benefit for him is that he’s recently signed a full time deal with NJPW, ensuring that the company will book him strongly as more than a part timer and giving him a chance to pin a secondary champion like Minoru Suzuki for a future title shot.
Hopefully this tournament establishes Cobb as an NJPW guy instead of being just a solid hand on tours or a midcard talent. That new contract will hopefully incentivise greatness out of him and inspire bookers’ faith in him for years to come.
