7. Jay Lethal (c) Vs. Michael Elgin
As per the continued partnership between New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Ring of Honor, the latter's top title will be on the line at Wrestle Kingdom 10 as champion Jay Lethal takes on number one contender Michael Elgin. The match was mooted but made final at RoH's Final Battle, as Elgin bested Moose to gain his position as number one contender and Lethal defended the title against AJ Styles. If all you know of Michael Elgin is his work in the United States, you could be forgiven for having little interest in this match. Elgin in Japan is an entirely different prospect however. He finally got that NJPW tour he so dearly wanted in the shape of a spot in the G1 Climax tournament, and boy did he take it. Great performance after great performance came up, and the Japanese crowds really took to Big Mike. As such, Elgin could be considered the favourite for this match in a way. Lethal has little to no name value in Japan, and as such the reception to this match lies on the broad shoulders of Elgin. Still, a good performance (that Lethal is more than capable of) could do wonders for both.
