NJPW's Jeff Cobb On Signing With WWE: "I'd Be Lying If I Said It Wasn't A Goal"
Former NJPW NEVER Openweight Title contender Jeff Cobb says he's open to WWE talks.
New Japan Pro Wrestling powerhouse Jeff Cobb is taking a "never say never" approach when it comes to potentially signing with WWE someday.
Speaking to the RRBG podcast, the 38-year-old said that while he currently loves what he's doing with NJPW and enjoys the freedom of his current schedule, he's open to considering WWE in the future (h/t POST Wrestling for the transcription):-
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t [a goal], and there’s a lot of people out there that say, ‘I would never go to WWE.’ Well, you know, I would guarantee they’re lying. Is it the end all be all anymore? Probably not but to say that you don’t wanna go to the WWE, I think that’s a bold-faced lie but, I think that — like I said, you never say never but as of right now, I’m with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and I love [where I’m at] and I’m able to do — because I’m with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, I’m able to do Bloodsport and scheduling permitting of course, but until that time, me and New Japan and Bloodsport through and through.”
Cobb turned an AEW contract offer down in favour of NJPW last year (report). He had previously been signed to Ring of Honor until January 2020, but chose to commit his future to the Lion Mark. There's currently no word on how long, exactly, his current deal runs for.
The former Olympian moonlighted for AEW in February 2020, appearing as Chris Jericho's "bounty hunter" as part of 'Le Champion's' feud with Jon Moxley. He is currently set to face NJPW newcomer Chris Dickinson at Josh Barnett's Bloodsport 4 this weekend.
