Owen - Hart Of Gold DVD Review: 14 Things You Should Know
2. The Death
Watching Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross inform the audience at home that Owen Hart had died took me right back to sitting in my living room in May 1999, watching the show live as a 14 year old kid with my jaw dropped and unable to comprehend what I was hearing.
Owen Hart dying was absolutely tragic and I believe that pretty much everyone interviewed for this release wishes he was still around or that it hadnt happened but the truth is, his death is breezed past relatively quickly here. Theres no mention of what happened or that the show continued that night. Were very quickly taken to the RAW tribute show for Owen the next night. It's all very odd and they're blatantly trying to skirt past the issue.
Shortly after the accident Bret Hart supported Martha in a lawsuit for negligence against the World Wrestling Federation, but it seems again that money talks for Bret as now he looks back on it a little differently, stating "it was an accident, just a horrible accident, nobody could know how bad it could go that day". I dont doubt that theory for one second. Obviously it was a horrible accident, its just interesting how Bret's tune has changed in the sixteen years since the accident happened.
Its tough not to get a little emotional watching his peers and family talk about him and crying as they wish he was still with us. The most touching tribute, for me, came from archive footage of The British Bulldog who said Owen "was a great husband, a great father. Owen never had a bad quality".
