Predicting AEW's Next 10 Breakout Stars

7. Tay Conti

There's something about Tay Conti. The Brazilian didn't make much of a splash in NXT but AEW wasn't put off by this, signing her up almost immediately once her 90-day no-compete clause had come to an end. Conti was instantly thrust into a storyline with Anna Jay and The Dark Order, a story that has taken a back step in recent weeks but could easily be resurrected at a moment's notice.

As mentioned with Shanna, AEW's division needs a figurehead. Despite the pre-Dynamite claims of various high-ranking people in the promotion, the women of AEW have been well and truly sidelined, restricted to short matches and half-baked stories at awkward times of the broadcast. That needs to change and it needs to change soon, and there's no reason why the former Taynara Conti can't be a major part of it all.

Her martial arts background and undeniable aesthetic qualities make her a tantalising prospect for any wrestling promotion. NXT didn't seem to know what it wanted to do with her outside of a brief dalliance with The Undisputed Era; I can't see AEW making the same sort of mistake.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
