3. Johnny Gargano
Let’s treat ourselves to one wrestler who isn’t currently with the company. Johnny Wrestling is in the wind at present, opting to spend time with his wife and new baby rather than leap back into the squared circle (selfish).
When he does re-lace his boots, though, it’s easy to imagine him doing so for AEW, and anyone who’s followed the guy in NXT will know for sure that he’s world champion material.
The booking of this one could go either way. In the latter days of NXT, Gargano was a fantastic heel, leading a stable and veering effortlessly between comedic and serious villainy, and the loveable Keith Lee is a great target for any baddy. Alternatively, Johnny can do battling against the odds as well as any wrestler alive, and the powerful, domineering Keith Lee presents some serious odds indeed.
Wherever Gargano pops up next, he’s certain to tear up trees, and Tony Khan must be tempted to add to his collection of former NXT champions. Unlike other companies, AEW loves a wrestler with a history to delve into. Better than that, though…
