Predicting The Next 10 First Time Universal Champions
8. Dean Ambrose
By the time that WWE finally allowed Dean Ambrose to have a title run, the character had grown stale and was often seen (by the creative team at least) as the weak link of The Shield. Thus, his reign as champion was rather underwhelming. However, the same will not be said about his future Universal Championship reign.
Following an eight-month absence, Ambrose returned to WWE earlier this year with a jacked physique and a badass new attitude. Gone was the corny 'Lunatic Fringe' gimmick and in its place was a heel-like hardened fighter who simply wanted to beat people up. He also improved his in-ring work, changing things up from his previous cartoonish offence.
Ambrose has thus been taken a lot more seriously as of late, and although he too is playing backup to current Universal Champion Roman Reigns, his time for the gold shouldn't be too far away. In fact, WWE has already been planting seeds of Ambrose's frustration at being the only non-champion in The Shield, so it wouldn't be that surprising if he were to turn on one of his Shield buddies later down the line to take the Universal Championship from him.
