Predicting The Next 10 Years Of WWE WrestleMania Main Events

7. Roman Reigns (C) Vs John Cena - WrestleMania 34

"I need to beat you Roman... I need to beat you at all costs," John Cena in the run-up to WrestleMania 34. This match is perfectly set up. Roman Reigns dominates the WWE title scene from Mania 31 to 34, establishing himself as the new franchise star. This leads to a degree of resentment in the Champion Emeritus John Cena, who is finally matched with the Samoan after winning the Royal Rumble. Although still a babyface, Cena will be increasingly heelish in this role. He will cut promos talking about how Reigns has stolen his title, stolen his franchise status and ultimately stolen his life. That personal edge will make this so much more compelling, as will the underlying fan questions of 'is Cena going to turn heel to beat Reigns?' On the night itself at WrestleMania, the heel turn does happen. In many ways, this is the same narrative as Rock vs Austin at Mania 17. Cena will become increasingly desperate as Reigns kicks out of move after move. Eventually, Cena snaps. A vicious weapon assault finally puts Reigns down, making Cena the new champion, extending his career by a significant run in a new heel status.
