Predicting WWE WrestleMania 39 Cards 1 Year Out

9. Gable Steveson Vs Austin Theory

Judging by his role at the weekend, Gable Steveson is clearly being set up as the biggest of deals. He even got a special introduction on night one from Stephanie McMahon. Don’t expect that friendly dynamic to last. In the strange fictional universe of WWE, any babyface hero must be at odds with the McMahons and any other authority figures on the show.

Nevermind that the babyface makes the shows better, sells loads of t-shirts and draws eyes to the product. The powers that be, who benefit from his success, are determined to bring him down. That being the case, it makes sense to programme Steveson against Vince McMahon’s own storyline chosen protégé Austin Theory, probably for a mid-card title.

The pairing doesn’t just work for storyline reasons either. Given his background, Steveson looks set to be a natural at pro-wrestling but we’re yet to see just how smoothly he transitions, how quickly he picks up the intangibles and masters the space between moves.

If Gable is still finding his feet, Austin Theory is a safe choice of dance partner. Theory will bump around like a pinball, pull goofy shocked faces after Steveson’s most impressive moves and generally make Gable look like a megastar.
