PROGRESS Wrestling Temporarily Shuts Down
"We will build this from the ground back up."
PROGRESS Wrestling has suspended all operations as the promotion attempts to rebuild through the ongoing #SpeakingOut movement.
Several PROGRESS-affiliated names, including former champion Travis Banks and co-owner Glen Joseph, have been accused of abusive behaviours since #SpeakingOut took flight last week. This preceded Sunday's news that the group had made major changes to its management structure in order to purge PROGRESS and allow it to move followed.
PROGRESS has since issued a new statement in which the new management team is "shutting everything down until we're happy with the changes that we make," before eventually reopening. The promotion, like many others, had been dormant since the ongoing global health crisis kicked in.
Per the statement, PROGRESS' "first priority is the safeguarding of talent, crew, and fans." They are collaborating with the police and hope to become "the pioneer for change that this industry needs at the moment" through "building this from the ground back up."
In addition, the WWE-affiliated group is investigating wrestler Michael Oku following claims that he retains a friendship with James Davis, who was accused of sexually assaulting a minor in January 2018. Oku was named on PROGRESS' new management team on Sunday.
