Rampage Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs

1. Naomie Harris Is Totally Wasted

Rampage Naomie Harris
Warner Bros.

Naomie Harris is an Oscar-nominated actress, so it's not terribly surprising that her considerable talents - as by far the best actor in this film - are thoroughly wasted on this material.

Harris' disgraced genetic engineer, Dr. Kate Caldwell, is introduced with only the laziest, scarcest excuse for character development - she wakes up late for work, her apartment is littered with coffee cups and we see a picture of a terminally ill partner, so she's clearly a mess - and it doesn't get much better for her.

Harris attempts to make absurd lines like, "Are you familiar with genetic editing?" sound credible, but for the most part she's left to do little memorable beyond follow The Rock's lead as he does something cartoonish and reckless.

As undeniably flawed as Rampage is, though, it is a lot of fun if you go in with the right mindset. Here's what it gets right...
