1. WrestleMania VII: Savage Vs. The Ultimate Warrior (Career-Ending Match)
And here's the reason the Steamboat match only finished in the #2 spot. In this writer's humble opinion, WrestleMania VII is not only the greatest moment in Savage's WrestleMania run, but the greatest moment in his career - period. Savage was never better than he was in the 'Career Ending Match', and this battle with The Ultimate Warrior had more twists, turns and swerves than a Hollywood thriller. At one point during the match, Savage hit Warrior with not one, not two, but FIVE of his flying elbow drops - only for Warrior to still kick out. The look of amazement on Savage's face is just priceless. In turn, Randy would be the one and only opponent to ever kick out of Warrior's Gorilla Press/Big Splash combo, which caused his face painted opponent to almost abandon the match - and his career - in disbelief. After an intense back and forth war, the end finally came when an exhausted Warrior planted a foot on the chest of the fallen Macho King for the three count. Enraged at "losing her meal ticket", Sensational Sherri immediately betrayed Savage and literally kicked him while he was down. The post-match beating continued until none other than Miss Elizabeth leapt from her seat in the audience and ran to Savage's rescue, tossing Sherri from the ring and opening her arms to the newly unemployed Macho King. Savage accepted her, and the two embraced in a romantic reunion that brought the fans in attendance to legitimate tears. As Bobby Heenan summed up on commentary; "When he entered this ring, there were over twenty thousand people standing on their feet booing him. Now he lost the match, his career's over, he's got Elizabeth by his side, and twenty thousand people are cheering him". A true master of his craft, WrestleMania VII was Randy "Macho Man" Savage at his absolute best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu5Zi2HuBww How would you rank Savage's WrestleMania performances? Do you disagree with my decision to give the #1 spot to the Career Ending Match over the iconic Steamboat classic? Post in the comments below and let's discuss!
