1. Shayna Baszler

We live in a strange world where a woman who burst onto the scene in early 2020 on a clear path of destruction who closed out the year as a former tag champ would be our top choice of all the wrestlers who debuted or returned to WWE.

But while Shayna Baszler fell short of where she started out in WWE, she still had a relatively strong debut year with the company. Baszler was runner-up in the Royal Rumble match, being tossed by winner Charlotte Flair, before showing up on Raw to start a feud with Becky Lynch by biting her neck. She went on to eliminate the entire field inside the Elimination Chamber in March, a feat that no one has ever done before.

This set up her WrestleMania 36 title match against Lynch, which she lost. We can debate whether that was a mistake (in hindsight, it might have been better to strap a rocket to her, especially with Becky vacating the title a month later), but after an appearance in the Money in the Bank match, Shayna essentially disappeared for two months.

Upon returning to action, Baszler began a “frenemy” relationship with Nia Jax, and the two captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, making her the only active wrestler who debuted in 2020 to capture a title. The women lost the tag titles last month, but they remain a feared force on Raw, and Baszler’s veneer as a tough woman remains intact at the end of 2020.
