9. Roadblock - Destroyed But Not Defeated

Another pay-per-view, another Triple H title celebration, but Roadblock wasn't quite as hard to swallow as the Royal Rumble. The March PPV was essentially a glorified house show, and while it brought some fun action, it was highly unlikely that anything major would go down. Dean Ambrose was installed as an arbitrary title challenger: everyone knew he didn't have a chance, and that made actually helped the outcome on this occasion.

Ambrose vs. Triple H was no straightforward burial, however. The two worked ridiculously hard, particularly Triple H, and both were made to look strong throughout. Ambrose eventually fell, but he was disallowed a pinfall victory when the referee ruled his foot was under the bottom rope as he scored the 1, 2, 3. He would have been crowned WWE Champion if not for this tiny mistake, and that gave his loss a convenient caveat.

Triple H eventually won with the Pedigree, but he was completely obliterated. Ambrose had beaten the tar out of him, and The Game couldn't even stand as he was declared the winner. He collapsed on the floor outside the ring and crawled up the ramp, selling the damage Dean had done to him, before eventually struggling to his feet. Sure, Roadblock still ended with the title in Triple H's clutches, but this at least put Ambrose's tenacity and effort over.
