Ranking 2016's WWE PPV Endings From Worst To Best
8. TLC - The Ellsworth Factor
Whether you've enjoyed the James Ellsworth storyline or not, this had to happen sooner or later. Ellsworth is a modern day Colin Delaney, and just as Delaney eventually turned on Tommy Dreamer, Ellsworth was always going to do the same to Dean Ambrose. Doing so in one of the biggest match's of Dean's career amplified the turn's significance, and gave The Lunatic Fringe even more impetus to wreck his former buddy two nights later.
It looked like Ambrose was on his way to victory when Ellsworth struck. Dean had already immobilised Styles and started scaling the ladder, but instead of climbing down the the belt in his hands, Dean went crashing through a stack of tables. Ellsworth's inflated 3-0 record against Styles gave him false confidence, and he knew exactly what he was doing.
WWE had hinted towards Ellsworth's turn in the weeks leading up to Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, and while AJ Styles could have benefited from a stronger means of victory, Ellsworth pushing Ambrose from the ladder worked. Ellsworth's presence in the WWE Title program has been divisive, but TLC set the wheels in the motion for the final chapter: his demolition at Styles' hands on this week's SmackDown. For that, it's at least acceptable.
