Ranking 2017's WWE PPV Endings: From Worst To Best
13. No Mercy: A Beastly Burial
WWE wet the bed when it came to Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman.
'Beast' vs. 'Monster' felt the hottest thing in the world coming out of SummerSlam, but they booked it entirely too early, spunking a potential WrestleMania headliner on a B-level pay-per-view. The short build was solid, though, and the company's mistakes would've been easily forgiven had Lesnar and Strowman delivered a barnburner of a match.
They didn't. Instead of bringing the house down with a brutal Godzilla vs. King Kong-esque destruction-fest, the duo laid a giant egg. Brock's lethargy was largely to blame, as 'The Beast' refused to bring forth the workrate that makes his best matches so compelling, and defeated WWE's hot new monster with a single F5 in less than 10 minutes. Strowman was buried, and the PPV closed under a veil of mass disappointment.
Lesnar retaining wasn't necessarily a problem, but the way it went down certainly was. The company made no attempt at protecting Braun, and while 'The Monster Among Men' has since regained his lost heat, his push could've done without this considerable blow to his momentum.
