The 2009 SummerSlam match between Randy Orton and John Cena might have been a confusing mess, but in their 2007 SummerSlam encounter they got it right.

Orton began targeting Cena, saying they had never met in singles match for the WWE Championship before. That lead to Jonathan Coachman naming Orton the Number One Contender. On a Saturday Night's Main Event just before this, Orton delivered a sick RKO to Cena onto a chair.

Orton played the role as the aggressor throughout most of the contest. He really seemed like he had Cena scouted and the crowd had a big segment of fans that wanted to see Cena lose.

Near the end of the match, Orton tried to Punt Cena's head but he moved out of the way and applied the STFU. Orton was able to reach the bottom ropes to break the hold. After recovering, he hit an RKO that only held Cena down for 2. Cena then hit his FU to secure a successful title reign.

This was a great match that's mostly hindered because of their careers since then. It's a good match, but it's hard to get excited to go back and watch Cena vs. Orton because it's been done so much. Nevertheless, this is a darn good match and the fifth best of Cena's SummerSlam CV.
