Due to the brand extension, wrestling megastars John Cena and Batista had never wrestled in a one-on-one match prior to SummerSlam 2008. They had a memorable finish when they were the last two in a Royal Rumble a few years prior, but never in a straight up singles match.

This match was their first meeting and it delivered as a big-time slugfest.

The crowd was pretty hot for this one. Lots of cheers and boos for both guys and even a fun "Yay" and "Boo" sequence when they they were very fatigued but still swinging. The crowd popped for a Figure Four by Batista (Ric Flair departed from WWE right around this time, so that probably had something to do with the reaction).

The finish came about when Cena went for his top rope leg drop. Batista caught him and fell into a Powerbomb. This actually didn't finish him, but the Batista Bomb that followed it did.

This doesn't seem like it should've been as exciting as it was but it really delivered. Cena and Batista made this battle feel pretty epic.
