John Cena’s 11 WWE SummerSlam Matches From Worst To Best
4. 2011 Vs. CM Punk
This was the followup to the legendary bout between CM Punk and John Cena at Money In The Bank 2011. Punk was the WWE Champion who 'left' the company while John Cena earned his title in the interim. With Triple H as the special guest referee, this match decided who the true champion really was.
While not as good as their MITB encounter, this is still a great match that got a huge reaction from the crowd. Punk was as popular as ever at this point and the nearfalls were insanely good at times.
One cool moment in this match was when it appeared that both Cena and Punk were going to get counted out. Triple H counted all the way to 9, then exited the ring. He personally reinserted both wrestlers into the match because he wanted a winner.
The win came after Punk hit the GTS on Cena, but the pin was tainted because Cena placed his foot on the ropes. Triple H didn't see it.
Post-match shenanigans ran wild on this night as Kevin Nash gave a Jackknife Powerbomb to Punk. Then, Alberto Del Rio cashed in his MITB briefcase to easily win the WWE Championship.
