Ranking All 20 WWE September PPVs – From Worst To Best

8. In Your House: Breakdown (1998)

With the Attitude Era in full swing, and coming off a very successful Summerslam in Madison Square Garden, the Austin vs. McMahon storyline took an interesting twist as The Undertaker and Kane were discovered to be reunited after months fighting each other, and McMahon enlisted their help in getting the WWF Championship off Steve Austin. McMahon guaranteed that Austin would lose the belt at Breakdown, and ended up making good on his guarantee. Unfortunately, it was a shady finish (sensing a theme with these September Pay Per Views?) where both Undertaker and Kane pinned Austin at the same time, so no champion was declared. The second-biggest match on the card was a triple threat steel cage match between The Rock, Mankind and Ken Shamrock. The three were getting chummy and looking to go up against The Corporation, so Vince McMahon booked the match to turn the three against each other. This was right around the time The Rock was beginning to peak as a babyface and be seen as the future of the company along with Austin. The rest of the card was filled with Attitude Era staples like DX (who faced Southern Justice in a six man tag), Val Venis, Gangrel and D€™Lo Brown, among others.
