4. The Wyatt Family

Similar to The Shield, Randy Orton found it was far easier to simply join The Wyatt Family after waging war with them for over a year. Everyone involved was better off for it, too.

Orton originally lost to Bray Wyatt at 2016's No Mercy pay-per-view and decided to join his crusade against the SmackDown Live locker room soon after. Wyatt questioned his motives but came around to trust him when Orton sacrificed himself for the betterment of the group on multiple occasions. They were the sole survivors for Team SmackDown at Survivor Series and became the SmackDown Tag Team champions together the very next month.

It was easily the most interesting both Orton and Wyatt had been in a great while, which is why Orton's Royal Rumble victory was so disappointing. That meant him splitting from the faction was only inevitable, and sure enough, The Apex Predator severed ties with The Wyatt Family mere weeks removed from Wyatt winning the WWE title to set the stage for their championship clash at WrestleMania 33.

The match and Orton's subsequent title reign were a complete disaster, but the time he spent with the Wyatts and their short-lived SmackDown Tag Team Championship run were a blast and featured some strong storytelling.
