While it may not have produced the most welcome result, it’s difficult to argue that this wasn’t one of the more impactful wins of Orton’s entire career.

In the main event of SummerSlam 2013, Daniel Bryan had just delivered a career-defining performance by beating John Cena to capture the WWE Championship. The win prompted wild celebrations: confetti, fireworks, post-match handshakes all around, the whole nine yards - including a Money in the Bank cash-in.

With the reality of situation still sinking in, Orton’s music hit and the briefcase-wielding challenger strode to the ring. But he didn’t quite make it all the way, and after teasing a cash-in he turned around, seemingly redeeming Bryan.

At which point, Triple H - who’d been guest referee for the prior match - struck Bryan with the Pedigree, paving the for Orton to snake in and cover the beaten champion.

Sure, it was a screwjob, but Orton played his role to perfection, mercilessly picking the bones of Bryan and aligning himself with Triple H. All in all, it made for an incredibly effective heel turn - and one of the cruellest cash-ins in history.
