3. WWE Championship Vs. Triple H (No Mercy 2007)
As mentioned in the first slide, No Mercy 2007 was a busy night for Orton.
Kicking off the show, he was awarded the WWE Title by Vince McMahon, only to lose it to Triple H after a matter of minutes - but his evening’s work wasn’t quite finished there.
In the show’s main event, Orton and Triple H met for the second time that night, with this latest chapter being a Last Man Standing encounter. It made for a far better contest.
The stipulation was used to full effect, with highlights including an RKO onto an unfolded chair, as well as Triple H slamming Orton with a chair shot of his own as his head lay prone on the steel steps. After plenty of back and forth, and a fair amount of blood, it was Orton who kept Triple H down for the count with a stiff RKO onto the announce table which somehow failed to collapse under the impact.
After the early shenanigans of being handed the title by default, this was a far better way of establishing Orton as a vicious heel champion.
