Ranking Each Of Randy Orton’s 12 World Title Wins
5. WWE Championship Vs. Triple H (Backlash 2009)
Just a few weeks after their disappointing meeting at WrestleMania XXV, Orton and Triple H battled for the WWE Championship once again - though this time in unusual circumstances.
The match was actually a six-man tag, as Triple H, Batista and Shane McMahon took on Orton, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, with the rules dictating that if the heels were to win, Orton would be crowned the new champion. On top of that, there was the added stipulation that the championship could change hands via disqualification or count-out.
If that sounds slightly convoluted, that’s because it was. Still, the match itself was enjoyable enough, particularly the finish.
Batista, at ringside, was about to waffle Rhodes with a chair when Triple H intervened, saving the match from ending via disqualification. That distraction bought Orton enough time to pop up and hit the RKO, and although Triple H kicked out at two, the time keeper called for the bell. Amidst the confusion, Orton remained focused on the task in hand and punted a prone Triple H, which this time was enough to score the three count.
