Fellow Canadians and longtime pals Lance Storm and Edge were tasked with opening the momentous, Invasion-heavy 2001 edition, and unsurprisingly for wrestlers of their skill, they do a fine job. Lance Storm was perennially underrated by WWE, and he cuts a genuinely funny promo at the start here.

It’s in-ring where he really shines, though, and he’s eager to impress in this match. He’s about as fluid a wrestler as you can watch, showing great ingenuity and flexibility kicking out of a pin with a boot to Edge’s skull, and moving with real agility alongside the more traditional Hart dungeon-inspired mat work. For his part Edge looks increasingly destined for stardom. He shows off a deep moveset including a snap powerslam his future frenemy Randy Orton would be proud of.

With it being 2001, this gets a little daft at the end with Christian accidentally spearing Edge, though his then-brother still manages to get the win. Nothing too flashy, but everything you want from an opening match, livening up the crowd but staying contained within its position on the card.
