Ranking Edge's WWE SummerSlam Matches From Worst To Best
4. vs Eddie Guerrero (2002)
As one third of the Smackdown Six, 2002, was a banner year for both Eddie Guerrero and Edge. Their no DQ match that September remains among the finest TV bouts of all time, and while their SummerSlam encounter can’t quite hang with that, you’re talking about two all time greats here - it’s obviously going to be good.
Both men now occupy the hall of fame, and while they were a little way off that status, they show their chops here as part of a fantastic card. This is a psychologically well constructed class, with Eddie stomping away at Edge’s shoulder while the blond babyface struggles to impart his will on his wily opponent.
The workrate is impressive here - they go just over 10 minutes but it’s all action, both guys bumping for each other in a manner illustrative that they deserved higher spots on the roster, which they’d get in a couple of years.
The match ends with a spear, which Edge was starting to get over as a finisher - it would serve him well the rest of his career. Heyman’s Smackdown roster is rightly the stuff of legends, and while this high profile singles match isn’t the best they’d ever do, it’s worthy of the two superstars’ talent.
