14. Backlash

A turgid night of action delivered only one good match, as Backlash 2018 peaked with its very first clash, then spent the rest of the night dolloping grey, tasteless slop on the plates of a crowd whipped into a ravenous frenzy by Miz vs. Rollins.

The crowd were quickly killed. A sloppy Nia Jax performance vs. Alexa Bliss, a tedious Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton encounter, and the ridiculousness of Daniel Bryan facing Big Cass in his first major singles feud since returning did the job. From there, we got an awful SmackDown Women's Title bout in which Carmella spent most of her time screeching in Charlotte Flair's ear, before AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura fell short of expectations once more, shattering any hope they'd ever have a 'dream match.'

Backlash wasn't a disaster, but nothing on it mattered. Nothing. It was 2018's least essential pay-per-view.

Best Moment: The Miz and Seth Rollins kicking things off with an electric Intercontinental Title clash. It still stands among either man's best of 2018, and nobody could follow them.

Worst Moment: Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe. A terrible main event, and a strong argument for anyone citing Roman's in-ring inconsistencies and Joe's declining athleticism.
