A similar pay-per-view to Backlash in that almost everything that took place within its three-and-a-half-hour runtime felt inconsequential, Extreme Rules signalled the start of WWE's annual summer slump.

This PPV highlighted some of the absolute worst feuds of the year. The B-Team vs. Deleters Of Worlds, Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin, Carmella vs. Asuka, and Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman comprised a horrendous opening run (with Shinsuke Nakamura's six-second Jeff Hardy squash thrown in there too). After that came the night's most Sports Entertainment-y moment, as Daniel Bryan single-handled fought The Bludgeon Brothers prior to injured partner Kane's dramatic rival. Their reunion was a fun, nostalgic moment, but the match? You've already forgotten about it.

Props to Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns for delivering a surprisingly entertaining battle of the bruisers, but Extreme Rules was milquetoast.

Best Moment: Rusev shines in his WWE Championship match with AJ Styles, helping 'The Phenomenal One' to one of the best defences of his lengthy reign.

Worst Moment: Carmella slaughtering Asuka's aura in just over five minutes, or the bloated Seth Rollins vs. Seth Rollins Iron Man main event.
