Ranking Every AEW Championship Reign Of 2023
19. Saraya - AEW Women's World Championship
This entry is sure to get some flack. Saraya coming back to wrestling after a devastating early retirement and winning a championship in her home country is certainly a feel-good moment - but it just continued to harm the already reduced prestige of the women's title.
AEW have been under constant (deserved) criticism for their inability to build many interesting women's storylines, with the best they've got largely just centring around "I want the belt". This is all well and good, but the women's championship means very little as it stands, as it's been passed around far too much this year. Putting it on the local hero for a cheap pop is just another example of doing the bare minimum...and even then it didn't make sense.
Saraya was a heel and the Outcasts stable wasn't over one way or the other by this point. The pop was nice but it felt like an empty platitude when they needed to instead fix their systemic issues with booking their women's division.
