On the 4 January episode of Raw, Goldberg returned after Drew McIntyre successfully defended his WWE Championship against Keith Lee. Once again, Goldberg was able to insert himself as the number one contender and make a title match for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

As has been the case for every Goldberg match during his second stint in WWE, fans knew what to expect from the bout.

A brutal back and forth clash before the bell rang kicked off the night for Goldberg and Drew McIntyre. Then both Goldberg and The Scottish Warrior took turns hitting their big moves before McIntyre was able to hit one final Claymore to end the WWE Championship bout. In the end, Drew McIntyre looked strong as ever being able to put away the former WCW Champion, and Goldberg shook the hand of McIntyre, something he had not done after any of his previous matches.

The action was fast-paced and the pre-match war on the outside really built the intensity of the bout. Nobody will argue it was a five-star classic, but an entertaining and quick match without Goldberg winning was all fans could have hoped for.
