Originally, Ziggler was set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules 2013 in a Ladder match against Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger. However, after sustaining an injury at the hands of Swagger shortly before the event, the champ was deemed unable to compete and Del Rio and Swagger faced off in a No. 1 Contender's "I Quit" match instead.

The match contested between the pair at WrestleMania 29 was solid and well wrestled, but hardly anyone cared. Their feud failed miserably, hence why a Triple Threat with Ziggler would have injected life into their long running rivalry. Instead of that though, fans were treated to yet another one-on-one outing between the two and the stipulation couldn't have been more tedious.

As usual, the referee constantly asking both men with a microphone if they could continue only made the matchup more unbearable to watch (or listen to, rather). Zeb Colter deviously throwing in the towel for Del Rio was clever, but the use of instant replay caused the match to be restarted when in reality, instant replays are rarely ever used in wrestling.

Perhaps the bout wouldn't have been as bad if fans didn't know they what they were going to be getting initially.
