Ranking Every “I Quit” Match in WWE History
11. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Ken Shamrock: Raw, October 26, 1998
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIJlFQVokGkAs you'll soon see on this list, there were a few quality "I Quit" matches that took place during the Attitude Era, but not all of them were instant classics, this one in particular pitting Stone Cold Steve Austin against Ken Shamrock being a prime example.
Mere weeks removed from being "fired" by Mr. McMahon at Judgement Day 1998, Stone Cold Steve Austin was still out of a job, but was reinstated on the October 26 edition of Raw by the WWE Chairman. He wanted to hear the words "I quit" come out of his adversary's mouth, and there wasn't a better way for that to happen than by putting him in an "I Quit" match with Ken Shamrock.
Normally, the stipulation should be saved for blow-offs to rivalries, but seeing how Austin would be fired for real (or at least in storyline) if he lost this match, that was the only thing that made it intriguing. Other than that, it was a rather standard match that didn't warrant the "I Quit" match stipulation.
With some help from Shamrock's then-rival Mankind, Austin was victorious in defeating the former Intercontinental champion and securing his job, ensuring that McMahon's plan to rid him from the company backfired.
