16. Drew McIntyre Vs. Bill Goldberg
This isn't big-time WrestleMania season business.
Isn't that why they these bring these old f*cks back?
It started horrendously. Drew McIntyre wasn't just respectful to the legends and particularly Hulk Hogan on Legend's Night; in remarkably competent and consistent character work, Drew McIntyre since he first captured the WWE Title has acted as a WWE custodian of sorts. He values the right way to get ahead and respects those - Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels et al. - who paved the way. And then Goldberg said he has no respect.
What?
In something of an indictment, it was later reported that a mishap meant that Goldberg was responding to a promo that Drew McIntyre didn't have time to cut. People watching just thought that this was typical WWE brain worms.
They thought this because, with Drew McIntyre quarantined and Goldberg unwilling to click on a Zoom invite, WWE thought it would be a good idea to build the match with a sh*tty MizTV comedy segment. Good comedy would be counterproductive enough. Comedy that makes you want to join a f*cking doomsday cult is not the ideal way to make the public want to watch a fight.
The go-home show was decent enough - it established that both men have a knockout blow - but we knew that already.
