Ranking Every Men's WWE Royal Rumble Match Of The 2010s
6. 2011
This wasn't a bad match by any standard of the imagination. It was just. Too. Much.
While the Royal Rumble is one of wrestling's most anticipated events of the year, it's impossible to deny that it can get a bit tedious at times. Not only do we have to sit through a four hour long card before the match that we all really want to see, that match itself regularly goes more than an hour!
That's why, in 2011, WWE made the genius decision to make it... even longer?
It can't be understated just how oversaturated WWE's roster was in 2011. Eager to include the 50 new factions that had been formed, WWE gave us a first ever 40-Man Royal Rumble Match.
Once again, the match was actually alright - we had a really cool standoff between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan in the opening stages before Punk went on a blistering 35-minute run, eliminating seven people in the process. He was eliminated by an irate Cena, who would make it to the final five before being eliminated by future WrestleMania opponent The Miz.
Despite almost 70 minutes of fast-paced action, the most memorable part of this match came at the very end, when Santino Marella crept out from under the ring and almost eliminated eventual winner Alberto Del Rio.
It was a decent match with a great winner, but its length is something that deterred WWE from going down the 40-man route for years. But, to quote Ted DiBiase, everybody's got a price...
