Ranking Every Men's WWE Royal Rumble Match Of The 2010s
4. 2017
A generally memorable match with a great amount of starpower, every elimination meant something in the journey to WrestleMania and the winner was well-received by both.
The sheer starpower of this match was unparalleled. Even through 30 years of Royal Rumbles, we had rarely seen so many wrestlers that were all good enough and, more importantly, realistic enough picks to win the match. Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Goldberg, Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt were just some of the names that fans were banking on heading into the event.
A reasonable complaint would be the lack of surprise entrants in this match, but does that even matter when one looks at how stacked it was? The choice to go with Randy Orton as a winner was questionable but it was all part of an angle that, WrestleMania match aside, was one of the best things on WWE TV in 2016 and 2017.
Everything in this match had a purpose - Goldberg's quick elimination of Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker being eliminated by Roman Reigns and even the Zayn-Strowman faceoff early in the show all contributed to an overarching angle. This Royal Rumble fit perfectly into every ongoing storyline without missing a beat, something that was impossible to achieve in the years before it.
