Ranking Every Randy Orton Vs. Triple H WWE Match Ever
9. No Mercy 2007 (Match #1)
Yes, there was once a pay-per-view that hosted not one but two Triple H vs. Randy Orton matches in the same night. Luckily, both bouts were fairly entertaining.
This clash came about after John Cena was forced to relinquish the WWE Championship due to suffering a career-threatening neck injury the previous week on Raw. Instead of holding a tournament to crown a new champion, Mr. McMahon simply awarded Randy Orton with the title... only to put him in an impromptu title match with Triple H.
Lack of logic aside, this was a strong match between the two. Despite being relatively short for a world championship clash, they worked a nice pace and kicked off the evening on a high note. After 12 minutes of back-and-forth action, The Game rolled Orton up for the three count and his first WWE title in many years.
It was clear that they held back here so that they could go all out in their Last Man Standing rematch later on in the show. In other words, this had no business being as enjoyable as it was.
