Ranking Every Randy Orton WrestleMania Match - From Worst To Best
8. CM Punk Vs. Randy Orton (WrestleMania XXVII)
Much like his previously mentioned meeting with Kane, Randy Orton’s WrestleMania XXVII clash with CM Punk was essentially based on an angle that went down months—even years—beforehand. At the 2011 Royal Rumble, Punk had cost Orton the WWE title in an act of retribution for Orton punting Punk, and in turn costing him a world championship, way back at Unforgiven 2008.
As much of a stretch as that backstory may have been, though, these two didn’t let that get in the way of their match.
The contest featured some cool storytelling, including Orton teasing a return of his punt kick, only for his knee to give out at the last moment, as well as a number of other memorable spots, such as Punk’s nod to Bret Hart with a Figure Four Leg Lock around the ring post and his innovative RKO counter with an arcing kick to Orton’s face.
And to cap it all off, the match was punctuated by a sweet finish, with Punk averting an RKO by fleeing the ring, only to jump back in from the top rope and get caught in mid-air by a successful RKO for the pinfall.
