At the same event, The Rock put an end to CM Punk's lengthy WWE Championship reign, to pick up his first title in 10 years. The two victories established a rematch of the now erroneously titled 'Once in a Lifetime' match from Wrestlemania 28, where The Rock had defeated Cena. WWE were hoping to recreate the same magic that The Rock & Cena had created the previous year, and as Rock had done with Hogan 10 years earlier, but something wasn't quite there. The crowd was into the match, with Cena getting his usual response, but The Rock wasn't receiving the usual cheers he was accustomed to. Some of the blame could be attributed to him defeating Punk, some because a part-timer was now champion and main eventing Wrestlemania. Either way, it didn't seem to distract The Rock or John Cena, and although their match was competent, it seemed almost a carbon copy of the match from the previous year. It also relied a bit too much on the finisher-fest we've come to expect from big matches, with both men kicking out of each other's best moves a bit too much.
