16. John Cena Vs. Randy Orton (TLC 2013)

First TLC Match - SummerSlam
WWE

When John Cena met Randy Orton in the main event of the TLC 2013 show, it was understandably billed as a big deal.

Not only was this a meeting between two of the longest-standing rivals in company history, it was also a title unification bout, with Cena putting his World Heavyweight Championship on the line and Orton risking his own WWE Title.

However, one of those selling points was also essentially the contest’s downfall. The fact that Cena and Orton were such age-old foes meant that there wasn’t really much interest in seeing them go at it for the umpteenth time, particularly when it meant they were hogging the main event limelight ahead of the wildly popular Daniel Bryan.

In the end the match didn’t do much to win over an apathetic audience. Though a decent enough contest, it was noticeably bereft of any major, show-stealing spots, which again means that it pales in comparison to subsequent entries on this list.

Even the finish—as imaginative as it was, with Cena dismantling the turnbuckle—was eventually lacking the kind of impact that a match of this billing may have warranted.
