7. The Hogan/Bischoff Era

In 2010, TNA received the greatest amount of buzz they’d ever had. Hulk Hogan was coming into the company, and he was bringing Eric Bischoff with him.

While we knew their time in WCW ended badly, many still held out hope that they could recreate just a fraction of the magic they’d given us during the nWo era. What we got was more like a flashback to WCW in 1999, when everything quickly went to hell.

This era in TNA is infamous for how amazingly inept it was. Here is just a few things that were terrible at that time: Hogan bringing in his good pals The Nasty Boys, then bringing in his daughter to head up the Knockouts Division, Eric Bischoff giving his son a job and pushing him as a star, Jeff Hardy main-eventing a pay-per-view while on...something, Sting turning into The Joker, “They” giving us one of the worst payoffs in the company’s history, Rob Terry pushed as the next Goldberg, ECW reforming for the 9,000th time and A.J. Styles imitating Ric Flair.

In this nearly two year time-frame, the only good things that came out of it were Austin Aries’ push into the main event, the beginning of the Aces and Eights angle, the rise of Bully Ray as a top-level heel and the introduction of the roving backstage cameraman , because that at least made logical sense for the times when wrestlers were scheming on camera. That was about it.

The awful content simply far, far outweighed the good. Oh brother!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
