Ranking Every Wrestling Wedding EVER!
11. Billy And Chuck
Billy and Chuck’s act has not aged well. At the time it was pretty offensive, but the way society has moved so rapidly over the past 15 years makes the tag team’s overly-homophobic ways feel amazingly dated and tone deaf.
Looking back at the segment is a bit cringe-worthy. The company pushed the marriage in the mainstream media with a straight face, as if their wedding angle was one to be celebrated. A couple organization's bit, but then were gravely disappointed when the ruse was up. On the Sept. 12, 2002 episode of SmackDown the tag partners were about to tie the knot when at the last moment they admitted they weren’t gay. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” was their response. That line, of course, came from an episode of Seinfeld...that aired in 1993! WWE was really out of touch in every regard.
Okay, now if we can get past the basis behind the marriage, the segment itself did have a couple of highlights. Eric Bischoff was fantastic as the minister, as many fans legitimately had no idea it was him under the old man makeup. Then the reveal of 3 Minute Warning destroying everyone in sight at their bosses' behest was pretty shocking as well.
It’s too bad there’s so much wrong with this set up, otherwise it would be ranked a lot higher here.
