Ranking Every Wrestling Wedding EVER!
4. Uncle Elmer And Joyce
You know you're in for a fun wedding when Gene Okerlund is playing the organ!
Uncle Elmer and Joyce got married on the Oct. 1985 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, and it remains one of the most memorable weddings in the history of wrestling. Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon were in on commentary, and Ventura went out of his way to bury the couple at every turn, most infamously saying “It looks like two carp in the Mississippi river going after the same piece of corn” when the happy couple kissed.
There were a lot of small moments that made it so much fun: Roddy Piper interrupting and telling the bride and groom that they both stink for no real reason, Hulk Hogan in a sleeveless dress shirt scaring Piper off, Leaping Lanny Poffo showing up to read a poem...while arriving completely shirtless and wearing wrestling trunks and eccentric musician Tiny Tim arriving as a guest and giving Elmer a ukulele. It was freaking weird, but in an endearing way.
As you can expect, there was a bit more tomfoolery to be had when Jesse wanted to share his own poem with the newlyweds. He took a dig at the couple by calling them hicks, which got him pushed into the wedding cake. Well, you had to figure that cake wasn’t going to actually be eaten.
Unlike most wrestling weddings, this one was legit. The two actually got married in the ring and Elmer and Joyce were married from that point on until his death in 1992.
