3. Stephanie McMahon And Test

Stephanie and weddings don’t quite seem to go so well in WWE.

It’s not often that the company is able to deliver a “cute” relationship successfully, but they did just that with Stephanie and Test. The young lovers were a popular act on Raw, and it seemed their relationship would someday propel Andrew Martin into the role of a top star. He fought for her in a “Love Her or Leave Her” match at SummerSlam 1999 against her brother and came out on top. Nothing could stop them! He soon proposed marriage and they would soon have a long, happy life ahead of them.

The two decided to get married on Raw, because it would have been weird if they hadn’t. Everything seemed to be going just perfectly that night. Vince pulled out all the stops, and brought in a couple of singers to set the mood, everyone was dressed to the nines and The Attitude Era suddenly became very romantic. For about five minutes or so.

Eventually, Triple H came out on the stage and showed video of him basically kidnapping Stephanie and driving her to a chapel in Las Vegas, then mimicking her voice to get her to unconsciously agree to marry him. While that was certainly a shock, Hunter also basically admitted to having his way with her while she was out. So, that’s not cool. In retrospect, as the angle played out it was revealed that Hunter and Steph were in on it together so it’s not as creepy. But still.

Anyway, the storyline was a big hit at the time and it felt like the beginning of a huge angle involving Test and Hunter. Except that never happened. In itself, though, it was a memorable and important night in the careers of pretty much everyone involved.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
