Vince McMahon wanted to get the 2007 “season premiere” of SmackDown off to a hot start, so he booked the wedding of Teddy Long and Kristal Marshall for the show. The couple wasn’t one of the most popular couples in WWE lore, but the boss saw enough in them to justify quite a bit of TV time.

The wedding started out on a nice note with Butch Reed making a cameo on WWE television as one of Long’s groomsmen. It quickly spiraled out of control from there. Marshall legitimately tripped on her way up the steps in an embarrassing moment. The band Jagged Edge then played a soapy song for a bit, and the wrestlers all waved their hands (Vince swayed, but didn’t wave). Jillian Hall interrupted to sing a song of her own and was carried away. Hornswoggle wouldn’t leave Coach alone and Godfather made a random appearance, which caused half the male wrestler to follow him and his hoes off into the night.

The big hook was that when Teddy was about to say “I do”, he died. Well, his character had a heart attack and the show went off the air with his fate hanging in the balance. And soon, everything went back to normal. It was never clear why this was a thing or where it was headed. What did Marshall really want from Teddy? We’ll never know, as she left the company soon after.

This wedding probably had Vince in stitches, but considering the characters involved weren’t that charismatic and the storyline behind it was so bad, this ended up as more of a dud than a cherished SmackDown memory.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
