There was a nice blend of old and new on display in the WWE Championship bout at Elimination Chamber 2010, as well as some interesting sub-plots along the way.

First-off we were seeing the seeds of a Legacy dissolution being sown. This led to Ted DiBiase inadvertently striking Randy Orton with a lead pipe, only to then surprise us all by pinning his mentor to pick up the elimination. There was also the brewing rivalry between Triple H and Sheamus, which itself gave us the gift of Triple H’s accidental Santa face…

Still, despite all the new talent, a familiar story played out as Triple H and John Cena made it to the final two. Cena would emerge the victor, but his win—and in some ways, the match as a whole—was cheapened by the fact that it essentially became an afterthought to an impromptu match made by Vince McMahon, in which Batista picked up the scraps to defeat Cena.

And it’s not even like that was the first time they’d pulled a finish like that…
