Ranking Every WWE Money In The Bank Winner’s Run With The Briefcase
9. CM Punk - 2008
CM Punk’s first spell as Mr. Money in the Bank lasted 93 days. That puts it somewhere in the middle of the road in terms of its overall length, which is fitting given that it was also a fairly run-of-the-mill spell in terms of the way in which Punk was booked during that time.
Punk teamed with Kane briefly but the pair failed in their bid for the tag team titles, while he also made it to the King of the Ring final before eventually losing to William Regal.
As has often been the case, the standout moment proved to be the cash-in itself. Edge was the World Heavyweight Champion at the time, but he’d just been drafted from Raw to SmackDown to leave Monday nights without a world champion.
Edge had been in the ring gloating about this, which prompted Batista to come out and lay a beating on him, at which point Punk saw his moment to strike, sneaking in to hit the Go To Sleep and capture the big gold belt. As straightforward as it was, this was a smart way of having a babyface pull off a cash-in without looking like a total heel, so kudos to everyone involved.
