As great as Ambrose’s cash-in was, it was really only following the blueprint that had been laid out by Kane some six years prior at the first-ever standalone Money in the Bank PPV.

There, Kane had won the Money in the Bank briefcase in the opening match on the show, before going on to cash-in on poor Rey Mysterio just seconds after he’d defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Jack Swagger. After hitting the Chokeslam and a Tombstone for good measure, Kane would score the cover to complete a rapid return to the world title scene.

The best thing about this was the timing of it all. It reminded fans of the many possibilities that the Money in the Bank concept presents, at a time when the company was essentially testing the water with the idea of a dedicated Money in the Bank event.

Again, it’s difficult to rank the overall run any higher though as it was technically amongst the shortest in history.
